Well folks, here we are with a mere 25 hours left to this year. I’m going to get one more post in before 2011 comes knocking on our doors.
A little bit on Christmas first:
Rob and I hosted Christmas this year with my mom and brother, his parents, his Uncle Mark, Uncle Richard and his wife Gladys, and Grandma Betty all in attendance. I love playing hostess, and Christmas dinner is a big deal. I have to say, I did a pretty great job. Not without the help of my lovely mom and husband, of course. It went off without a hitch.
Grandma Betty made a coconut cream pie and chocolate pie, and I made a caramel apple cheesecake. My cheesecake split open on the top, which I was not happy about. And when you cut into it, it just fell apart. It tasted good though. I think all the apples and 1 1/2 cups of caramel sauce in there made it nice and crumbly.
Gift highlights included the dog’s jackets from my mom. Rita was especially thrilled to wear hers. Rob gave me seasons 1-3 of Roseanne and an autographed photo of the cast (with original Becky!). He also “gave the baby” a Flip Camera. Of course it’s so we can make adorable-y annoying videos of our baby when he’s here, so look out for those! I think Rob’s favorite gift was the Nerf gun that came with sticky darts and whistle darts. Our house was littered with them all day. In fact I’m still finding darts behind curtains and under tables.
Let me explain the medal. Rob’s parents had just gotten back from a Hawaiian cruise the day before. On the cruise they participated in the on board activities and won these medals and baseball hats. They were given out to us after dinner. Also, note the sunglasses Rob is sporting. Rob’s dad, Joe, found them while in the ocean in Hawaii and brought them back. Turns out someone lost a fancy pair of Giorgio Armani sunnies.
We had a lovely Christmas with our family, and hope everyone else did too.
Item #2: Baby Junk
I hit the 28 week mark this week. I saw a male O.B. for this months check up. He was nice, very clinical, and the appointment was short and sweet. Everything looks great, I’m measuring right on time and the kid has a strong heartbeat. My favorite part of the appointment was when I got to drink the lemon lime flavored glucola. At first, it wasn’t too bad. It tasted like flat Sprite. After a few sips (you have to drink it in less then five minutes) it tasted tangier, and was like drinking flat Sprite with cough syrup. Thankfully, I didn’t get sick and I finished it in time. The fun part is sitting around for an hour then getting your blood drawn. Actually, that wasn’t so bad. The phlebotomist was really nice and I even took the time out to fill out a stellar comment card for her. I’ve already got my test results back and I don’t have gestational diabetes! Hooray. With this appointment I also received a “Kick Count Card”. This is a card I have to fill out every day to keep track of how active the baby is. Not a problem because I think I’m carrying the next big soccer star.
I say this every post, but I cannot believe how quickly this is flying by. There are only 82 days left until my due date. I can’t wait to meet this guy that’s been squirming around with my guts and high five-ing me (I like to think he does, but I really can’t tell what the little nubs I feel are).
2011 is going to be the shizz, people. I would like to wish everyone a very safe, happy and healthy new year. Cheers!
